Southbound motorists to wake up to temporary SH2 diversion
at Korokoro

|

Southbound road users on State Highway 2 (SH2) will wake up to a new temporary diversion at Korokoro tomorrow morning (Wednesday 17 September) as part of the SH2 Dowse to Petone Upgrade Project.

Southbound road users on State Highway 2 (SH2) will wake up to a new temporary diversion at Korokoro tomorrow morning (Wednesday 17 September) as part of the SH2 Dowse to Petone Upgrade Project.

This shift onto a new section of road, established specifically for the project, is next to the current northbound lanes and allows the construction team to continue work on the state highway while keeping road users moving.

NZ Transport Agency Regional Manager Graham Taylor says the diversion is the second of several temporary changes at the Korokoro intersection relating to the lowering of SH2 and the construction of a new road bridge across SH2 to Hutt Road.

The construction team will continue work on building retaining walls and supports for the new road bridge before starting to lower the existing state highway lanes by up to six metres later this year.

Mr Taylor says a temporary speed restriction of 30km/h will be in place at Korokoro tonight while work is completed for the shift.

"This work has been planned so it doesn’t have a major impact on traffic, but road users are asked to please take care when travelling through the roadwork area while everybody gets used to the new layout," he says.

NZ Transport Agency thanks the public for their patience while we improve their journey.
