State Highway 2 Waihī to Tauranga works update

|

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises the following works through State Highway 2 (SH2) Tauranga to Waihī, including the Takitimu North Link project between Tauriko and Bethlehem, during the coming weeks.

A section of Cambridge Road will be closed (between Moffat Road and St Andrews Drive) on Saturday 29 October, between 7am and 7pm, to allow tree felling to take place as part of the Takitimu North Link project. A detour will be in place from St Andrews Roundabout to Orange Lane, a map is attached.

When trees are being felled Stop/Go traffic management will be in place on Moffat Road from approximately outside of the Tauranga Adventist School to Harrison Road with a 30km/h temporary speed restriction.

People passing though this area will begin to see this site being cleared for the new alignment of Cambridge Road East, which will bring the intersection further north making way for the new expressway to be built.

Along SH2 near Katikati, there are some delays to the asphalt program at Rea and Tetley Roads due to weather and material supply, we anticipate this night work to be completed within the next fortnight.

The roundabout at Rea Road / Tetley Road is 24m diameter and designed to slow traffic so vehicles can safely negotiate the intersection, including over dimension loads such as large heavy haulage vehicles. Final asphalt work is currently underway.

Current work sites SH2 Tauranga to Waihī

  • Athenree Road to Tanners Point Road – Roadworks to install new services. Expect minor delays of one to two minutes and short sections of roadworks with speed reductions.
  • Tanners Point Road to Tuapiro Road – Road widening works continue throughout the week. Expect minor delays of one to two minutes.
  • Rea Road/Tetley Road intersection – There will be intermittent Stop/Go traffic management in place during the day which may cause longer delays, but typically expect minor delays of one to two minutes. During Stop/Go traffic management at night, expect approximately a five-minute delay. There are no right turns to Tetley Road and limited right turn options to Rea Road. Detours routes are available, please follow the signs and directions of the traffic management team.
  • Morton Road intersection – Roundabout construction continues with lane shifts and speed reductions in place. There will be intermittent Stop/Go traffic management in place, which may cause longer delays, but typically expect minor delays of one to two minutes. Please follow the temporary signs and directions of the traffic management team.
  • Turners Road to Esdaile Road – Lane shifts and speed restrictions for retaining wall construction and geotechnical investigations. There will be intermittent Stop/Go traffic management which may cause longer delays, but typically expect minor delays of one to two minutes.

Takitimu North Link works

  • SH29 / Takitimu Drive Toll Road – A reduced speed limit of 80km/h will be in place while our contractor’s crews are working behind the barriers.
  • Kopurererua Valley – A section of the pathway was temporarily closed in June while service relocations take place along the eastern side of SH29 / Takitimu Drive Toll Road. The work is planned to be completed by end October. A detour is in place to the alternate track parallel to the closed section and signposted for track users. On the western side another section of the track closed permanently earlier this year.
  • Cambridge Road – Works will continue behind the barriers.  Shoulder closures in place. On Saturday 29 October from 7am to 7pm Cambridge Road East will be closed between Moffat Road and St Andrews Drive for tree felling, and a detour in place (as detailed above). Stop/Go will be in place on Moffat Road.
  • Harrison Road – Shoulder closures in place.
  • Wairoa Road – Reduced speed of 30km/h continuing. Stop/Stop may be required for large vehicle access for bridge construction and earthworks. If you are driving towards Bethlehem from Wairoa Road, we encourage you to use the underpass at Wairoa Bridge, to avoid a right turn onto SH2.
  • Minden Road – Shoulder closure and a reduced speed of 30km/h in place.
  • Te Mete – Stop/Go in place for vegetation clearance.

Some of the above works are weather dependent and may be postponed in the case of poor weather.
