Third attempt to replace bridge at Diana Falls slip site

|

The NZ Transport Agency will close State Highway 6 through Haast Pass tomorrow night (Tuesday 2 December) in a third attempt to replace the bridge at Diana Falls.

The Agency’s Regional Performance Manager Pete Connors says twice last month our contractors tried to replace the bridge, the first attempt being thwarted by equipment failure and the second by heavy rain which made it unsafe for the contractors to be working in the water channel.

“We have managed to do some of the work and with one more night-time closure we hope to complete the job.”

He says the weather is looking good for tomorrow night so we’re going for a “third time lucky” attempt.

Weather permitting, State Highway 6 will close tomorrow night at the Diana Falls slip site in Haast Pass at 4pm; the last traffic being released at 3pm at Haast Township and 3.30pm at Makarora.

Mr Connors says the highway will re-open at Haast Township at 10am and at Makarora at 10.30am on Wednesday 3 December.

“If we experience more bad weather on Tuesday, we will look to move the closure to the following day.”
