Waka Kotahi investigating Auckland train derailment

|

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency will investigate the derailment incident involving a KiwiRail locomotive in Auckland earlier today.

The investigation will be carried out alongside an inquiry into the derailment opened by the Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) earlier today.

The investigation will be undertaken by the Waka Kotahi Rail Safety team as part of their regulatory role in assuring stakeholders and the public that the country's rail networks are being managed safely.

Waka Kotahi has primary regulatory responsibility for rail safety in New Zealand. The Waka Kotahi Rail Safety team works closely with other agencies and regulators, including the TAIC and WorkSafe, and will report its findings from this investigation to the Director of Land Transport.
