Wellington highways closed due to surface flooding: NZ Transport Agency media statement - update 2pm

|

The NZ Transport Agency is confirming its advice to avoid all unnecessary travel and listen to radio or follow social media for updates.

The NZ Transport Agency is working hard to get roads open again, but as timing of when the roads will be reopened is not known, parents may need to consider contingency arrangements for collecting their children from school.

Due to severe flooding and slips the following roads are still closed:

  • SH58 from Paremata to Haywards Interchange at SH2
  • Greys Road
  • Paekakariki Hill Road
  • SH2 between Ngauranga and Petone is closed northbound. Currently open southbound but congested and motorists should avoid travel on this route. There may be a short closure southbound to help alleviate flooding.
  • SH1 between Mackays Crossing and Paremata – closed northbound and southbound.

There are slips and surface flooding along State Highway 1 between Johnsonville and Porirua so if travel is necessary on this route, motorists should take extra care, watch following distances and speed.

People can call 0800 44 44 49 for updates and the Transport Agency’s website(external link) and social media accounts will be also updated as more information is available.
