Wet weather delays Chapel St Viaduct opening

|

The scheduled opening of the Chapel St Viaduct to traffic for the NZ Transport Agency's Harbour Link project has been delayed due to wet weather.

NZTA Project Manager Kevin Reid said the scheduled date for opening the Viaduct was to have been Thursday October 8th, but will now be Monday October 12th (weather dependent).

Traffic flows are likely to be a bit slower for the first few days of the Viaduct opening, as motorists familiarise themselves with the new road layouts, he said.

A major change for motorists travelling from the Mount is that there will be no direct access from the new Harbour Bridge to Dive Cr, Mirrielees Rd or Marsh St until the project is completed in December.

In the meantime, motorists will be able to access these roads from the Viaduct, exiting at the Chapel St off ramp, or by continuing across the Viaduct and down to Takitimu Dr, then making a U-turn at the Elizabeth St roundabout and travelling back over the Viaduct. Extended queues are likely city-bound at these two exit points, particularly at peak periods, until the Dive Cr off-ramp opens in December.
