WoF alert – Two Auckland-based inspecting organisations and their vehicle inspectors suspended from issuing WoFs

The NZ Transport Agency has immediately suspended Manurewa Auto and Tyre Centre and Rosary Limited (trading as Carbine Automotives in Mount Wellington) from issuing Warrants of Fitness.

  • During a recent site review by the NZ Transport Agency, Nassir Habib, the sole vehicle inspector for Carbine Automotives was found to be incorrectly issuing a Warrant of Fitness (WoF) to a vehicle with structural damage. Mr Habib also failed to properly inspect critical vehicle safety systems such as brakes.
  • Manurewa Auto and Tyre Centre and its vehicle inspector Litesh Gounder were found to be non-compliant in a number of areas. Most seriously, Mr Gounder admitted to falsifying brake test records and not check braking systems properly.

Due to the concerns around the inspection practices of these vehicle inspectors, there is a strong possibility that some vehicles may have been incorrectly passed.

For this reason, we strongly encourage people who have a current Warrant of Fitness issued from either the Manurewa Auto and Tyre Centre or Rosary Limited (trading as Carbine Automotives) to get their vehicles rechecked as soon as possible.

The NZ Transport Agency will contact all 2607 affected vehicle owners individually as soon as possible to advise them on recheck options. Vouchers will be provided and will be valid for six months from the date of issue.

Note for customers:

The NZ Transport Agency has records of all WoF inspections. Should we have any concerns about the inspection and certification of your vehicle’s WoF we will contact you directly by both phone and letter, using the personal information recorded on the vehicle owner’s file.

If you have moved address or changed contact number in the past year and have not updated this, please do so by phoning the Transport Agency on 0800 108 809.

On our website we have further information about the regulatory compliance review and warrant of fitness information for customers.
