It was spades at the ready at the new Beaumont Bridge site over the Clutha River/Mata-Au yesterday afternoon, half-way between Milton and Alexandra. A sod turning event was held to mark construction about to begin on this highly anticipated SH8 project, the biggest new infrastructure project in Clutha District in many years.
Waka Kotahi has awarded the construction contract for its SH6/SH8B in Cromwell to Fulton Hogan. The roundabout will be fully funded by Waka Kotahi through the NZ Upgrade Programme (Regional Package). A tender price of $3.3million has been accepted, says Principal Project Manager Brendon French.
UPDATE Friday 3 December: Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises night works on the western (Waikato) side of State Highway 29 Kaimai Range have been completed and no further partial closures are required. The essential maintenance work to repair sections of the road was completed ahead of schedule thanks to good weather and favourable conditions on site.
