With Waitangi Day ahead on Tuesday and many people taking Monday, 5 February also as a holiday, South Island drivers should be ready for busy highways on key routes, says NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).
A section of SH75, the Akaroa highway to Hilltop, will be down to one lane between Little River and Summit Road with temporary traffic signals in place for the installation of new road safety barrier (guardrail) from next week – 7 February.
Drivers in the lower North and upper South Islands need to brace themselves for a burst of bad weather due to hit tomorrow afternoon and evening (Friday, 2 February).
Construction will begin next week on new safety barriers that will make the Ruby Bay Bypass on State Highway 60 in Tasman a much safer route for drivers.
