Fieldays 2023 is fast approaching, with the event taking place at Mystery Creek from Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 June. Over 100,000 people are expected at the region’s annual agricultural trade show, and this will undoubtedly have an impact on roads nearby.
The next phase of the State Highway 1 Cambridge to Piarere Safety Improvements programme gets underway this month, as Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency starts construction of a turnaround bay at the intersection of SH1/Hydro Road, east of Cambridge.
A short section of Truman Lane will re-open to two lanes and access from the SH29A roundabout will be restored from early morning on Thursday 8 June, weather dependent. Two lanes will initially be available during daytime hours only, with around-the-clock access expected to be restored from Saturday 10 June.

Mixed weather is ahead for Kings Birthday in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, and heavy traffic is expected in the usual hotspots as people head away for the long weekend.
Workers on a Waikato roading project are being exposed to abusive and dangerous behaviour by passing motorists, with Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency saying the situation is unacceptable.
A small section of Maunganui Road between the Bayfair roundabout and Exeter Street is temporarily closing for reconstruction of the ground level road as part of the Bay Link project.
Waka Kotahi is advising motorists that due to a slip on State Highway 29 near Old Kaimai Road, the highway is currently closed in both directions until further notice.
Waka Kotahi contractors will continue working throughout the winter months as ongoing wet weather is having a significant impact on the state highway network across New Zealand, including in the Bay of Plenty region.
Works to resurface State Highway 2 between the Wairoa River Bridge and Bethlehem hit an unexpected issue early this morning (Thursday 25 May 2023), when an asphalt paver suffered a mechanical failure at the worksite.
Recent bad weather has affected state highways across the Bay of Plenty, and with more poor weather forecast, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising road users to drive carefully.
Further work is required to complete the Glenview bus hub on State Highway 3 Ōhaupō Road in Hamilton so that it can better serve all members of the community when the new Comet bus timetable begins in July.
Waka Kotahi is reminding drivers throughout the Manawatū-Whannganui and Taranaki to take extra care on the roads, as heavy rain yesterday and overnight has caused a number of slips and road closures.

Road contractors across the state highway network are completing the last renewal sites of the 2022/23 season, which has seen a significant programme of work delivered under testing circumstances.
