Better visibility at intersections, a review of parking outside the Z Service Station in Waikuku, and safety barriers to help stop people being killed or seriously injured in a crash are among changes people would like to see on State Highway 1, through North Canterbury.
The Takaka Hill Road into Golden Bay sustained one main slip overnight and there is silt and debris across sections of the road. Crews need to sweep the silt and away and wash the road to make it safe to drive on, and a digger is making its way up the hill to clear the slip.
The NZ Transport Agency will be temporarily closing the Waiho Bridge over four weeks at night from 25 March (this Sunday night). The four weeks of night-time closures will run from Sunday to Friday each week, 25 March to 20 April, 10 pm to 6 am.
The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists to allow extra time when travelling on State Highway 1 in Mid and South Canterbury early this week as an annual bridge inspection programme gets underway in the area.
