Even during the coldest weeks maintenance and some construction activities continue across the Waikato & Bay of Plenty region, ensuring the state highway network across the region remains safe and accessible, and major projects march on.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises of the following closures for motorway improvements. Work delayed by bad weather will be completed at the next available date, prior to Friday 19 August 2022 Please note this Traffic Bulletin is updated every Friday.
From Wednesday 10 August traffic travelling on SH3 will be switched to run on the northbound lane 400 metres from the Princess Street intersection at Waitara, in order to allow crews to install a new stormwater pipe under the road as part of the Te Ara Tūtohu: SH3 Waitara to Bell Block safety improvement project.
Road crews have managed to clear treefalls, slips, and debris that had forced the closure of this road overnight and today. This involved significant effort as not only did fallen trees have to be removed but so too did those at risk of falling onto the road.
Work will get underway next week on the construction of a new slow vehicle bay on State Highway 2, as part of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency's work to provide more passing opportunities between Napier and Wairoa.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is urging drivers to plan ahead for overnight maintenance work on the State Highway 3 Bulls Bridge which will be undertaken from Wednesday 10 August to Saturday 13 August.
