Construction of the new 16km Cambridge bypass - the fourth of the remaining five sections of the Waikato Expressway - has kicked into high gear with major earthworks and bridge construction getting underway, says the NZ Transport Agency.
Drivers of State Highway 33, between Paengaroa and Rotorua, would have noticed that they are now travelling on the new section of road at Pareteiro. For the last 16 months this section of road has been undergoing major safety improvement works.
The NZ Transport Agency has awarded a design contract to upgrade the Te Puna / Minden Road intersection on State Highway 2 (SH2) to Opus Consultants. A roundabout was identified as the best solution to improve this busy intersection.
The NZ Transport Agency plans to reopen Wayby Station Road a week earlier on Saturday 22 March after it has completed safety improvements at the intersection of the road and State Highway 1 near Wellsford.
Essential deck repair work starting from the middle of this month, will limit night time access across the Kawarau Falls Bridge on State Highway 6 between Frankton and Kelvin Heights for about six weeks.

The NZ Transport Agency says its priority to improve traffic flows in the Warkworth area is to first construct a new highway between Puhoi and Warkworth before it upgrades the community’s Hill Street intersection.
