With the Queen’s Birthday long weekend ahead, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency urges drivers to stay safe and plan ahead, particularly if they are driving long distances in freezing, windy or wet conditions.
With lots of people keen to make the most of the last long weekend for a few months, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is sharing its top ‘trip hack’ to make travel safer and more enjoyable for Waikato and Bay of Plenty motorists this Queen’s Birthday weekend.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency will reopen the Porter’s Pass/ Arthur’s Pass route between Canterbury and the West Coast tonight at 8 pm. SH73 between Springfield and the Porter River Bridge has been closed since the weekend’s massive downpours damaged bridges and dumped scree over the highway.
With winter in full swing, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising people heading out of Wellington for the long Queen’s Birthday weekend to take extra care on the roads and plan ahead for a safe journey.
Changes will be taking place on State Highway 2 north of Sargent Road (Wainui Stream) and south of Wright Road (Whatakao Stream) from this week, as part of the Waihī to Ōmokoroa safety improvements project.
