A section of State Highway 25, commonly referred to as the Thames-Coast Road, remains closed between Tapu and Waiomu after a large slip over 1,000 cubic metres came down at Ruamahanga last night.
Planning is well underway to enable a mid-year start to safety improvements on the Mornington Road to Mosgiel section of the Dunedin Southern Motorway.
The rain has abated in Kaikoura today and the inland road via Waiau and Mt Lyford is open again. Road crews, geotechnical and scaling teams have worked long hours in the past few days and the Transport Agency thanks the community for patience in difficult circumstances.
New 80km/h speed limits have been rolled out on state highways immediately surrounding the Waterview Connection as part of a wide-ranging programme to support the opening of the twin motorway tunnels.

State Highway 1 south of Kaikoura will remain closed until at least 7 am tomorrow (Thursday) after high volumes of rain caused mudslides to block the highway yesterday and earlier today.
Drivers are being advised to expect delays on State Highway 1 near Tirau for the next several days while emergency works are carried out after a tomo, or underground cavity, was discovered under the highway yesterday.
