Contractors will resume essential maintenance work on State Highway 1, Weld Pass, in October as the summer maintenance season continues in Marlborough.
Rockfall remediation work at the Rock Shelter between Otira and Arthur’s Pass, SH73, continues for another three weeks, says NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).
The truck recovery operation on SH6 between Inangahua Junction and the entrance to Westport is now completed with the highway reopened just before 6 pm.
SH1 south of Christchurch particularly from Rolleston to the Rangitata River bridge will be slower than normal this evening, with urgent night work at the Ashburton/ Hakatere River bridge tonight.
People driving through Fiordland, along the West Coast of the South Island and around the Canterbury high country and alpine passes are warned to be ready for heavy rain overnight tonight and into Thursday, says MetService and NZTA.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) re-opened SH73 between Otira and Arthur’s Pass overnight from the past weekend. An additional project at McGrath Creek bridge, which would have affected night travellers this week, has been pushed out to next week.
The State Highway summer maintenance programme will be in full swing in Tasman in October with new chipseal to be laid on the State Highway 60, Mariri Causeway (south of Motueka).
UPDATE 9:40 pm: State Highway 6 is now open under stop/go traffic management and a 30’km/h temporary speed limit following a serious crash on the Whangamoa Hill earlier this evening.
Drivers can expect delays when travelling through the crash site until the highway is fully reopened.
