Part of State Highway 1–Desert Road is to have two full closures and will be down to one lane for almost three months while the deck is replaced on Waihohonu Stream Bridge.
The damage along State Highway 25 between Thames and Manaia has now been assessed and the Transport Agency has developed a programme which aims to complete the final repair work by the end of March, weather permitting.
The NZ Transport Agency will remove the cordons on State Highway 25 north of Thames at 6pm today (Wednesday 10 January), with light traffic able to use the road without the need for convoys.
The NZ Transport Agency is asking heavy vehicles operators to travel the Tairua way around State Highway 25 to minimise further damage to the number of worksites under repair.
The Thames Coast Road, State Highway 25, remains closed between Tararu, north of Thames, and Manaia and has now become a very long work site. Escorted convoys for residents only will continue today, at times as required, Sunday 7 January, between Tararu and Te Puru. The cordons will be manned 24/7.
As a result of storm damage, heavy rain and king tides over the past two days the Thames Coast Road, State Highway 25 has suffered significant damage, says NZ Transport Agency System Manager Karen Boyt.
Due to slips and rockfall from the current flooding, the NZ Transport Agency closed State Highway 25, Thames to Manaia just after 10 am today. This is the west side of the Coromandel Peninsula and all available roads to the Coromandel will be busy in the current conditions.
