The Lindis Pass, SH8, between Tarras and Omarama, will remain closed overnight with fresh snow falling and several areas of slips and flooding, says Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
Waka Kotahi is urging everyone travelling across the Canterbury and Otago regions to take extra care on the roads as strong winds continue to batter the region, with conditions likely to be particularly treacherous in some areas overnight.

Heavy rain has had a significant impact on State Highways across the upper South Island and lower North Island today. As of 4pm Tuesday 12 July, the following routes are closed.
Heavy rain and bad weather has seen the closure of key State Highway links across the top of the South Island. As of midday, Tuesday 12 July, the following State Highways are closed:
• SH63 is closed between St Arnaud to Renwick.
• SH1 is closed between Blenheim and Seddon.
Highways around the South Island/Te Waipounamu all reopened around or before lunchtime today after overnight snow and ice closed some alpine routes, says Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
Nearly 50 submissions were received on a Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency proposal to close the Mutton Town Road/ Clyde-Alexandra Road (SH8) intersection.
