Despite heavy rain over South Westland all day, state highways on the West Coast have remained open with only minor slips and small rockfalls which were easily cleared, says Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
The predicted heavy rain falling over SH6 in South Westland since the early hours of Wednesday is causing some surface flooding but so far no serious slips or highway delays, says Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
Waka Kotahi contractors will be undertaking overnight works to replace the road surface on State Highway 5 immediately east of the State Highway 1/SH5/Napier Road roundabout on Friday 11 February.
Work to reopen State Highway 3 to two lanes at the site of the Uruti Valley slip, north of Urenui, gets underway tomorrow and is expected to be complete by Saturday.
