2025 has kicked off with a number of active worksites across the region. With good weather forecast for the next few weeks it’s perfect timing for crews to get stuck back into the huge chipsealing programme, says Andy Oakley, Waikato System Manger for NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).
After the Christmas hiatus, road maintenance is back with a major closure of State Highway 1. The Desert Road, between Tūrangi and Waiouru, will close from 5am on Monday 13 January for approximately 2 months.
To kick start the New Year, State Highway 5 (SH5) from Oturoa Road west to the South Waikato boundary will be getting a refresh. The 8-week road rebuild will take place 5- 6 days a week from 7am to 6pm beginning Tuesday 14 January. Enabling works are underway this week to get the worksite ready.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi would like to thank everyone who travelled on the Auckland motorway network over the summer break for their patience while critical maintenance work was carried out on State Highway 1.
Reminder: From Monday (6 January), a short section of the northbound lane on Cambridge Road, from the SH29 intersection to 563 Cambridge Road, will be closed to complete the narrower section of sheet piling ahead of retaining wall works, as part of the upgrade of the SH29/Cambridge Road intersection.
Update: 20 December - Urgent road repair works near Ravensdown on State Highway 2 between Masterton and Carterton are now complete and the road is open to traffic in both directions.
To kick start the New Year, State Highway 3 (SH3) through the Ōhaupō Village in the Waikato will be getting a refreshing make over, with a 7-week road build taking place from Tuesday 7 January 2025.
