NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA)’s current measures to request people to slow down south of Tekapo through to Lake Pukaki/Twizel will remain in place while the cold hoar frost and black ice conditions continue.
As a result of early morning and continued foggy, hoar frost and black ice conditions in the Mackenzie Basin, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is adding an extra highway maintenance crew and dropping the speed limit initially to 50km/h from east of Lake Pukaki to Lake Ruataniwha.
Drivers are advised to plan ahead for the final resurfacing stage of the Te Rapa section of SH1C Waikato Expressway, from the Te Wetini Dr/Wairere Dr overbridge near Wintec through to the Horotiu Interchange.
Drivers are advised that State Highway 1 through the Brynderwyn Hills is closed as heavy rain has caused some slips onto the road. The road is fully closed, and we don’t yet have a time frame for reopening the road.
Overnight traffic management will be in place on State Highway 1 at Manakau and Ohau next week as the safety improvements project enters the final phase.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is advising that SH8 has re-opened from Lake Tekapo to the intersection of SH80 at Lake Pukaki. The road had been closed following a serious crash before 9am today.
