The NZ Transport Agency advises drivers using State Highway 1 between Kaikoura and Cheviot that the road will reopen to one lane with traffic management in the next half hour with two lanes likely to be restored by 9pm.
Timaru drivers and freight operators are warned about two separate pieces of road resurfacing happening on 2 and 3 March, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Both pieces of work are weather-dependent so if it is wet, they may take place a night or two later.

A fatal crash this afternoon on State Highway 1 on the north side of Hampden, south of Dunedin, means the highway will be closed until around 7 pm tonight.
Diversions will be in place for southbound traffic through the Northern Gateway Toll Road (State Highway 1) next week (29 February and 1 March) while safety and traffic information signs at the Johnstone Hill Tunnels are painted and cleaned.

A Northern Busway extension, Matakana link road, upgraded Hibiscus Coast Bus Station and state highway improvements are part of potential transport plans to support large numbers of new houses in northern Auckland.
A new $64 million, seven-year contract covering the maintenance and operation of the NZ Transport Agency’s Southland state highway network, will start on Tuesday 1 March.
