The NZ Transport Agency reopened State Highway 1 south of Kaikoura this afternoon at 3 pm. The highway was closed before 8 am after 15 to 20 mm of rain fell over a short period with minor rockfalls triggered by the rain.
The NZ Transport Agency is advising road users of further closures on State Highway 2 south of Gisborne, as they work with Police and contractors to recover the bus involved in a fatal crash on 24 December.

The NZ Transport Agency is advising people travelling on the alternative Picton to Christchurch route that speed limits have been lowered in some areas along state highways 7, 65, 6 and 63 in order to keep everyone using the road safe.
