State Highway 6 through the Upper Buller Gorge between Murchison and the Iron Bridge at Inangahua will remain closed overnight due to rockfall concerns, says the NZ Transport Agency.

A slip in the Upper Buller Gorge, State Highway 6, closed the highway in the early hours of Monday, 9 July. Damage has occurred to a car that encountered the slip before Transport Agency contractors had reached the site around 1 am and established the closure. The sole occupant, the driver, was unharmed.
The NZ Transport Agency is urging motorists to stay up to date with road conditions between Opotiki and Gisborne (SH2) this weekend as heavy rain in the forecast will likely require the closure of the road through the Waioeka Gorge as a safety precaution. The most likely time of the closure, based on current forecasts, is from around midday on Sunday to midday Monday.
