Raising awareness of the dangers of driver distraction and educating motorists about the importance of vehicle safety was the focus of a combined NZ Transport Agency and police inspection in Katikati this week.
The Transport Agency has confirmed the timing for next month’s extended closures of the Taramakau road/rail Bridge on State Highway 6 near Greymouth, so safety improvement work can be carried out on the entrances to the bridge.
Major safety improvements are on the way for drivers travelling between Christchurch and the West Coast, with construction now underway on the State Highway 73 (SH73) Mingha Bluff Realignment just east of Arthur's Pass Township.
The Transport Agency is urging motorists to factor extra time into their travel plans, to allow for a 24 hour closure next week of the Beaumont Bridge on State highway 8 between Milton and Alexandra.
