About Te Ringa Maimoa Transport Excellence Partnership

Te Ringa Maimoa Transport Excellence Partnership is a collaborative initiative between Local Government NZ, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and all road controlling authorities, targeting business-excellence across the transport sector.

This programme builds sector capability and excellence  enabling continuously improving investment decision-making based on robust activity planning, service delivery and quality comparative data.

The success of the programme has been the combined partnership of local government and Waka Kotahi promoting a ‘for the sector, by the sector’ philosophy. We support Road Controlling Authorities (RCAs) to understand the requirements of the Government Policy Statement on land transport and to become ‘smarter buyers’ by creating tools and providing guidance to improve performance.

Formerly the Road Efficiency Group, this partnership was formed in 2012 as the authority to implement the recommendations of the Road Maintenance Task Force.

Our Māori name – Te Ringa Maimoa

Te Ringa Maimoa means ‘the hand that is always behind the scenes nurturing the people.’ This name speaks to the values and spirit of the programme, emphasising our role as supporter of both the people and tools used in the transport sector.

The name Te Ringa Maimoa was a koha (gift) from Te Mātangi, the Māori partnerships team at Waka Kotahi.

Our English name – Transport Excellence Partnership

This name reflects the what, why and how of the group. Our focus is on continuous improvement within the transport sector and we do this by focusing on co-design and enabling strong relationships for the benefit of our communities.
