Project introduction

Let’s Get Wellington Moving is a joint initiative between Wellington City Council, Greater Wellington Regional Council and the NZ Transport Agency.

Background

In the wake of the Basin Bridge decision, we're taking a fresh look at our transport system to ensure it supports how we want our city to look, feel and function. The focus is the area from Ngauranga Gorge to the Airport, encompassing the Wellington Urban Motorway and connections to Wellington Hospital and eastern and southern suburbs.

Investigation

In April 2019, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency appointed engineering consultancy AECOM to produce a detailed business case for the Nelson Future Access project. The programme scope includes fast-tracking work to identify whether any walking and cycling enhancements can be delivered within the Rocks Road area in the short to medium term.

The investigation will be completed before the end of 2021.
