  • Kirikiri Stream bridge replacement

    The replacement of the SH26 Kirikiri Stream bridge and upgrade of the nearby SH26–SH25A intersection will reduce the impact of flooding in the area during heavy rain.

  • Little River to Cooptown shared use path

    A shared use path for walking and cycling will be built along SH75 between Little River and Cooptown. It will be delivered in two stages, the first stage is from Church Road to Puaha Road.

  • Mackays to Peka Peka corridor improvements

    Following the opening of the Mackays Crossing to Peka Peka Expressway in 2017, we carried out works to make the section of old SH1 fit-for-purpose as a local road. After the completion of those works, ownership of that section of road was transferred to Kāpiti Coast District Council in April 2024.

  • Marlborough roads recovery

    The damage caused to Marlborough roads by weather events in 2021 and 2022 was substantial. The Marlborough Roads Recovery Team was established to repair and restore the network and is one of the largest recovery projects for local New Zealand roads.

  • Melling transport improvements

    Transport improvements at Melling will provide for a safer, more resilient and accessible transport system in Lower Hutt.

  • Mt Iron roundabout

    NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is building a new roundabout at the SH6/SH84 Mt Iron Wanaka intersection, to reduce serious crashes and provide safer access for people walking or cycling. This project is part of the NZTA’s Safe Infrastructure Programme.

  • Nelson and Tasman road recovery

    The damage caused to the Nelson and Tasman region by the August 2022 weather event was unprecedented for the region. We are working hard to repair and restore the roading network.

  • Nelson Future Access Project

    The Nelson Future Access Project is the investigation of a future-proofed transport system considering the needs of all users travelling within Nelson.

  • New Beaumont Bridge

    This project involves replacing the current single lane bridge across the Clutha River – Mata-Au on SH8 at Beaumont with a modern two-lane structure, just downstream of the existing bridge allowing the highway to stay in front of the local Hotel – something strongly favoured by the local community.

  • North Auckland recovery (Dome Valley and SH16)

    The North Auckland recovery project involves repairing significantly damaged areas in the Dome Valley and along State Highway 16, following the severe weather events of 2023.
