Waka Kotahi would like to thank everyone who gave us feedback.

We will be applying for the consents that we need to construct and operate the pathway. You can expect to hear more from us about this closer to the time.

    December 2019 update

The project team would like to thank everyone who provided feedback in August and September around the ramp/lift options for both the southern and northern connections of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Shared Path over the Auckland Harbour Bridge. We received an overwhelming response from the community that ramps are preferred for accessibility as well as more broadly how important a seamless connection is for people using the link and also the community.

  •   Akoranga to Constellation Drive

    September 2020 update

In May and June 2020, Waka Kotahi consulted with the local community regarding this section of the Northern Pathway to help us identify a preferred route. We wanted to learn more about the area, and how people want to use the path to help inform our decision.

We would like to thank everyone who gave us feedback. Overall, most people expressed strong support for the pathway, saying it will fill a gap in walking and cycling infrastructure on the North Shore and give people a real choice to use sustainable and healthy modes of transport.

Summary of public engagement - key statistics, themes and ways we plan to respond to your feedback [PDF, 1.4 MB]

Now that a preferred route has been identified, it will need to be endorsed by our Board and funding approved before the detailed design can begin.

We will be taking your feedback into consideration during the detailed design, and will:

    • Look at designing street-level connections at all the main intersections (Akoranga Dr/Esmonde Rd, Northcote Rd, Wairau Rd Tristram Ave, Sunnynook Rd and Sunset Rd) to connect people to local streets.
    • Continue to investigate grade-separated options at all main road crossings (listed above).
    • Work with community groups, local boards and government agencies to consider options to mitigate or avoid any potential environmental impact as we finalise our business case.
    • Work with Auckland Transport, Auckland Council, and local boards to identify local connection opportunities and proposed greenway plans to deliver a fully integrated walking and cycling network.

There will be opportunities for people to give feedback on the design before it is finalised.
