From 8 February 2018, the Transport Agency is rebuilding and resurfacing Rocks Road, State Highway 6, between Basin Reserve and Magazine Point.
Rocks Road road resurfacing works have been deferred while the footpath and seawall are repaired.
Updates will be posted here as we know more.
The work includes replacing drains, building new footpaths and kerbs, and rebuilding and resurfacing the road surface. Additional work includes some seawall strengthening and cliff face maintenance.
Stage 1 - Drainage work, in conjunction with cliff face and sea wall work
Stage 2 - Removal of existing concrete pads below the cliff face
Stage 3 - Kerb and channel works
Stage 4 - Pavement construction
Work will be completed before Easter weekend, weather permitting.
Work will be carried out day and night, with the exception of Saturday night, and Sunday daytime. During the day the highway will be two lanes at all times, with a speed restriction of 30 km/h, but it will reduce to one lane overnight with Stop/Go traffic management.
Cyclists on Rocks Road will need to walk their bikes on the footpath, or cycle carefully on the footpath and give way to pedestrians, as the marked cycle lane will be closed while these works are underway. Experienced cyclists may choose to use the traffic lane, given the slower speed limit. Drivers are asked to take care around cyclists.
Part of the pedestrian walkway will be unavailable during repairs to the seawall, and pedestrians will be escorted through the work site by a member of the work crew.
