Geotechnical investigations for the second Mt Victoria Tunnel are underway.
This involves drilling 5 geotechnical boreholes at 4 investigation locations in the Hataitai Park area of the Wellington Town Belt to provide an understanding of the local ground conditions.
The boreholes will be between 40m and 80m in depth and use rotary drill rigs to obtain core samples of subsurface material, to help plan the alignment and retaining structures for the new tunnel.
For more information about these investigations, you can sign up to the project e-newsletter.
To keep everyone safe, at times the investigation works will require the temporary closure of some tracks in the Hataitai Park area of the Wellington Town Belt. Track signage will be in place, including at the start of relevant feeder tracks. The signs include a QR code to this webpage for live information on the temporary track closures.
The map below shows the tracks that will be temporarily closed (in red) or have narrowed access (in orange) - at some stage during the works.
The live map below shows the tracks that are currently closed to enable the project team to set up safely, Once the works are underway, this map will be updated to show the tracks that have reopened. The track numbers correspond with the planned dates listed in the table further below and will be kept updated as works progress.
