Summer 2017–2018 public engagement

Community engagement is an important part of our work to develop and improve the transport network.

We’re looking at how we can make State Highway 3 (SH3) between Waitara and Bell Block safer and keep traffic flowing. We want to make sure that the improvements we’re considering are right for the people who use this road.

During summer 2018, we asked the local community to comment on proposed options to improve safety and efficiency on this section of the state highway. About 250 people attended one of the community open days held in Waitara and Bell Block in December 1017, people also filled in feedback forms and commented via an online map.

Using this feedback, and other technical assessments, we have recommended final options that are awaiting approval.

March 2017 public engagement

As part of our investigation, we hosted two public open days on 30–31 March 2017. The aim was to better understand local travel patterns, the routes people take and the sort of problems they encounter when using State Highway 3 between Waitara and Bell Block.

270 people registered at the open days and many more attended. We also received 95 feedback forms and e-mails with people’s thoughts and suggestions.
