Project Introduction

The NZ Transport Agency is seeking public input into proposals to set permanent new speed limits on SH94 on the eastern entrance to Lumsden.

  • Project type

    Speed review

What we know

We’ve talked to the community, council, local businesses and others about improving safety on the SH6 through Luggate. We’ve heard that speeds on this section highway feel too high to be safe.

Vehicles numbers through the town are rising along with its population with several new residential developments. More are planned and will add to Luggate’s growing population. These developments will generate extra pedestrians and cyclists, and more traffic trying to access this busy highway from side roads.

What we’re proposing

Based on what we know, we think the following would be safer speed on this section of road:

Location Current speed limit Proposed speed limit Current mean operating speeds
Reducing the existing speed limit of 70km/h to 50km/h on the SH6 eastern and western approaches into Luggate between the 70km/h and 50km/h signs. 70km/h 50km/h 60-64km/h

Have your say

Formal consultation on new speed limit proposals is required under the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limit (2017).

This is your opportunity to have your say before decisions on the speed limits for this road is made by the NZ Transport Agency.

Submissions close at 5pm on Friday 15 November 2019.
