Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and Auckland International Airport are working to upgrade State Highway 20B to provide better and more reliable travel options with a new shared path and additional priority lanes between Pukaki Creek Bridge and State Highway 20.
Our normal working hours for the SH20B project are between 7am and 5pm from Monday to Saturday. However, due to time lost as a result of Covid-19 and to honour our commitment to timely completion of the project by early next year we are expanding our working hours into the night.
The night works will also ease pressure off the network, minimise disruption during peak hours and offer a safer working environment for construction staff.
The road will remain open to people on foot and people on bikes.
If this work is delayed due to weather or any unexpected road conditions it will roll to the next fine night. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and will use best industry practices to minimise disruption.
As a live construction site, the speed limit is 50km/h. Please drive with care and watch out for people on foot and on bikes.

Working at night is a win win for Waka Kotahi and its contractors. SH20B, part of the Southern Gateway Programme is a good example, the teams working on the project have been making great progress by fully shutting down the road five nights a week. It minimises disruption on the network, and offers a safer working environment for our team.
Bus route 380
Due to the road works on SH20B, expect delays and allow extra time for your journey for those using Bus Route 380. Thank you for your understanding.
