Purpose

The SH16 Lincoln to Westgate project has improved this section of Northwestern Motorway and ties into work recently completed at the Lincoln Road Interchange. The motorway has been widened between Lincoln Road and Westgate with additional traffic lanes, better on and off-ramps, and a bus shoulder lane in both directions.

Bridges over the motorway has been replaced at Royal Road, Huruhuru Road and at Huruhuru Creek (westbound only). The Northwestern Cycleway has also been extended alongside the motorway to create a shared walking and cycling path. This project is part of the Western Ring Route to provide an alternative to SH1, central Auckland and the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
