There has always been an expectation that the Mackays to Peka Peka Expressway would change how people move around our district, and that traffic patterns and volumes would change on local roads once the Expressway opened.
Late last year the NZ Transport Agency, the Kāpiti Coast District Council and the M2PP Alliance came together to review speed limits on roads that have been created, or affected by, our Expressway construction work. We invited feedback from residents, stakeholders and the community, on what the speed limits should be on the following roads in order to minimise harm and reflect the function of these roads.

As part of this consultation, 98 community members or residents provided feedback, as well as 11 key stakeholders.
On Thursday 23 March a Speed Limits Review recommendations report (external link) was put forward to Kāpiti Coast District Councillors, and a Council resolution was passed on the proposed speed limits for these roads.
All recommendations in the report were passed, which means from 12 April, the following speed limits will come into effect:
