Exciting news from the Ōtaki to north of Levin expressway project! Our Predator Proof Area has welcomed its very first residents - three beautiful ornate skinks! These little guys are an endemic species, meaning they’re unique to New Zealand.
The four-hectare area was specially created as part of the project to give native lizards a safe home when they’re found during construction. Site Ecologist Caitlin Lavery shows us the site and explains why this discovery is so important.
