Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to plan ahead for closures of State Highway 1 at Mackays Crossing over four nights starting this Sunday 3 October 2021.
Motorists travelling overnight on State Highway 1 (SH1) between Tawa and Porirua will need to take a detour route for up to three nights next week, while a signage gantry is installed across the width of SH1 for the new Transmission Gully motorway.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is working with the Transmission Gully Public Private Partnership contractor, Wellington Gateway Partnership (WGP), and its subcontractor, CPB HEB Joint Venture, to confirm a new opening date for the motorway.
State highway works in Wellington and Wairarapa are resuming, following the move to COVID-19 Alert Level 3 this week for most of New Zealand, excluding Auckland and Northland.

With less than three months until the contractually agreed opening date of 27 September 2021, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency says the Wellington Gateway Partnership (WGP) contracted to build, operate and maintain the Transmission Gully motorway, and its design and build subcontractor the CPB HEB Joint Venture are continuing to advise Waka Kotahi that they remain confident of meeting their contractual commitments and opening the road on time.
The slab is down, the frame is up… work has begun on the first and possibly the only permanent building to grace the Transmission Gully compound at Lanes Flat.
Work will begin this Friday, 12 February, on a major upgrade of the State Highway 58 (SH58) interchange at Pāuatahanui to allow for more traffic and better flow between SH58 and the new Transmission Gully motorway, scheduled to open in September this year.
