Background

NZTA Wellington Transport Alliance will undertake major rehabilitation work on State Highway 2 Chapel Street in Masterton. This work involves reconstructing sections of the road from the base upwards. The first section to be reconstructed is between Jackson Street and Lincoln Road roundabout. The second section is between Michael Street and Russell Street.

These works will be completed over 23-night time lane closures of Chapel Street, weather permitting excluding Friday and Saturday nights. The Jackson Street to Lincoln Road roundabout section will be closed for ten nights excluding Friday and Saturday starting on Sunday 21 April and the Michael Street to Russell Street section will be closed for 13 nights excluding Friday and Saturday starting on Sunday 14 May.

The new road surface will be much stronger and less prone to potholes and traffic damage. Additionally, the road will be less noisy and more skid-resistant.

Access to residences and businesses during road closures

Traffic controllers will be on duty to assist. Just wind down your car window and let them know where you need to go.

If you live between the two work sites, you will be able to access your property at all times. Some parks near the businesses down Chapel Street will be unavailable during the works, but the public parks down the side streets are still available.

Please contact us on customer@wta.nzta.govt.nz with any questions.

We appreciate that roadworks are inconvenient for neighbours but will do our best to minimise this for residents and businesses.

Thank you in advance for your patience during the works on this major road through your town.
