Research Report 681 Framework for evacuation routes

Published: | Category: Resilience and security , Research programme , Research & reports | Audience: General

A primary requirement of the transport system is for efficient evacuation routes and associated facilities such as signage that will enable people to move safely and quickly away from hazards and major impacts. Thus there is a need to be able to design, assess and be confident in the efficacy of proposed evacuation routes.  Through this research, an Evacuation Routes Framework was developed which can be used in advance to identify and evaluate potential route options. The Framework could also be applied during an event to help identify and re-evaluate evacuation routes in real-time.
