Road-traffic noise screening tool

The road-traffic noise standard, NZS 6806, only requires mitigation to be considered in clearly defined circumstances. The purpose of this screening tool is to identify those project options where mitigation is definitely not required under NZS 6806. The screening assessment is made on the basis of noise levels with and without the project, which can be estimated with the road-traffic noise calculator. In some instances, more detailed computer modelling of noise levels by a specialist may be required.

To use the tool, fill in the inputs under each tab in turn. When completed a PDF file recording all inputs and the result can be generated from the ‘Export’ tab. The PDF file will also contain a link to reopen the screening assessment at a later date. Help text is available by clicking on the (?) symbols.
