- providing certainty for Waka Kotahi business planners, project technical designers, procurement processes and functional project managers as well as ITS suppliers and consultants
- supporting improved planning and insights to inform decision making for investment in future transport system solutions.
ITS S&S are a core contributor to the successful operation of the national transport network. The framework manages the performance, functionality and operational outcomes for the design, delivery and integration of ITS equipment and systems.
About our S&S documents
The standards and specifications provide assurance for delivery of solutions and the equipment and systems required to build and configure them. This breaks out into three key areas:
Design assurance is delivered through a series of design standards. The standards ensure transport network level operational outcomes and design for safety, security and maintainability are accounted for in solutions being delivered to Waka Kotahi. Design standards address risks typically generated at the front-end of roading or infrastructure projects. Their objective is to ensure solutions address the correct operational need and solutions are fit for purpose.
Delivery assurance is managed through a series of delivery specifications which support procurement and systems integration. The key risks that specifications address are ensuring the correct equipment is being procured, that it will integrate with operational systems and will deliver the correct functionality and performance requirements.
Core requirements (standards and specifications)
Core standards outline common conditions and obligations and are applicable across all Waka Kotahi ITS design standards. Core specifications define common requirements and are applicable across all Waka Kotahi ITS delivery specifications. Their purpose is to provide clarity for each core subject area by managing duplication of common requirements within the design standards and delivery specifications.
