Noise and vibration from construction and maintenance activities is an important consideration. We have prepared a number of resources to assist our staff, consultants and contractors in the management of construction noise and vibration.

New Zealand Standard 6803

NZS 6803 is an independent standard produced by Standards New Zealand and provides guideline noise limits and management practices for construction and maintenance works. More information can be found on the NZS 6803 page below.

Calculations

NZS 6803 provides calculation methods for noise from construction activity and the online construction noise calculator is available.

State highway construction and maintenance noise and vibration guide

The effective management of such noise and vibration is essential to avoid unreasonable effects on communities and individuals. We have produced the State highway construction and maintenance noise and vibration guide to inform our staff, contractors and the public about construction and maintenance noise and vibration. Information is also provided on prediction, management, mitigation and documentation.

The guide details our processes based on NZS 6803 and contains practical information for the management of road construction and maintenance noise and vibration, illustrated with case studies of recent projects.

We have prepared these case studies to supplement those discussed in the guide.

Construction noise surveys

Requirements for conducting construction and maintenance noise measurements are provided in NZS 6801, NZS 6802 and NZS 6803. We have prepared templates that can be used to record details of measurements on site and for subsequent reporting.

Example reports and management plans

The following are examples of construction noise and vibration assessment reports and management plans from our projects. Report and management plan templates are available.
