Requirements for using child restraints in New Zealand

Under New Zealand law, all children under seven years of age must use an approved child restraint appropriate for their age and size. Children aged seven must be secured in a restraint if one is available in the vehicle.

Become a child restraint technician

Child restraint technicians play a very important role in keeping children safe on our roads. For this reason, the child restraint training programme has been linked to a competence-based system.

Find a child restraint technician

Waka Kotahi has been notified that child restraint technicians listed on this page have been trained and certified through an independent competence-based system. Their training has not been independently verified or assessed by Waka Kotahi. This list will be updated regularly.
