Project purpose

The first stage involves:

  • upgrading the 15th Avenue/Fraser Street intersection to increase safety and road capacity, and decrease travel times.
  • various other works to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians in the area.

The investigation will find the optimum solution to:

  • increase traffic capacity
  • maintain travel times
  • improve safety for all road users
  • improve cycling and pedestrian facilities
  • encourage modal change away from single occupancy vehicles, along the whole route.

Benefits

The 'Advanced Works' will improve safety for all road users and increase traffic capacity at a key intersection and around the area.

The long term investigation aims to improve safety and maintain travel times as traffic volumes increase along this route. It will also focus on gaining improvements for the community on either side of the road by providing greater connectivity across the corridor.

Features

Advanced works: adding an extra lane for traffic turning from 15th Avenue into Fraser Street as well as an extra merging lane on Fraser Street. New pedestrian crossing facilities and more defined cycle routes will also be built.
