Roads of National Significance

The Roads of National Significance (RoNS) are a series of major transport projects designed to enhance New Zealand’s infrastructure. These projects aim to boost economic growth, improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, support housing development, and create a more resilient transport network.

Roads of Regional Significance

Roads of Regional Significance (RoRS) support regional growth, improve connectivity, and enhance access to services. They link towns, industries, and tourism hubs, ensuring efficient local transport. While not part of the national network, they are vital for regional development, freight, and community access.

NZTA is responsible for managing the government’s investment in the land transport system. We plan, invest in and deliver a range of major projects on behalf of the government.
