The survey details the results of responses provided by New Zealanders to a broad range of questions focused on specific road safety topics, including safety related behaviours, leading awareness, expectations and responses to policy and interventions around enforcement, speed, vehicle safety, impaired driving, distraction, driver fatigue and safety cameras.
The Road User Safety Monitor builds on Public Attitude to Road Safety surveys undertaken periodically since 1974 and annually since 1994, with the then Land Transport Safety Authority continuing the survey till 2004. From 2005 to 2016, the Ministry of Transport carried out the survey before being picked up by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
