Things to know about our planned closures

  • General maintenance: Cyclic maintenance activities which includes stormwater systems cleanup, structural maintenance, various inspections, vegetation control and graffiti removal.
  • Other maintenance: activities that cannot be carried out during the cyclic closures. This includes road surface and structural replacement, and safety improvement works. These dates may be posted up to a week prior to works starting.
  • While we do our best to work on the advertised dates, these closures are weather dependant, and dates may change. For real-time information please go to Journey Planner.

  • You may experience delays to your journey before the advertised time for the closure. This is because our team need to set up traffic management on the mainline and local roads such as ramp closures, lane restrictions and detour signs. However, traffic should still be able to travel along the state highway until the advertised closure time.
  • Nearby properties may experience increased noise; we apologise in advance for any inconvenience.

    SH18 Brigham Creek Road to Greenhithe Road

    Full eastbound closure for general maintenance between 9:30pm and 5am.

    Detour via Upper Harbour Drive to Tauhinu westbound on-ramp

    There will also be a full westbound closure between Greenhithe Road and Tauhinu Road. Traffic will still be able to travel west across Upper Harbour Bridge using one of the westbound lanes.

    SH18 Lincoln Road to Brigham Creek roundabout

    (in conjunction with the above closure - SH18 Westgate to Brigham Creek Road)

    Full westbound closure for general maintenance between 10pm and 5am.

    Please detour via Lincoln Road, Triangle Road, Don Buck Road and Fred Taylor Drive.

    Traffic travelling to SH18 should detour via Brigham Creek Road.

    North Auckland

    SH1 Northcote Road to Onewa Road (including the Auckland Harbour Bridge)

    Full southbound closure for general maintenance between 9pm and 5am.

    Detour via Northcote Road, Lake Road and Onewa Road.

    There will also be lane restrictions on the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

    SH1 Constellation Drive to Northcote Road

     

     

    Full Southbound Closure for general maintenance between 9pm and 5am.

    Detour via Constellation Dr, East Coast Rd, Forrest Hill Road, Wairau Road, Taharoto Rd and Northcote Rd.

    SH1 Oteha Valley Road to Constellation Drive

    (in conjunction with the above closure - SH18 Paul Matthews Road to Albany Highway)

    Full southbound closure for general maintenance between 10pm and 5am. 

    Detour via Oteha Valley Road, Albany Expressway, Bush Road, Albany Highway, Glenfield Road, Wairau Road and Tristram Ave.  

    SH1 southbound to SH18 westbound link will be closed.

    Traffic travelling to SH18 should detour via Caribbean Drive, Goldfinch Rise and Albany Highway.  

    Mon 12 Jan

    Central Auckland

    SH1 Auckland Harbour Bridge

    Northbound lane restrictions including the northbound clip-on lanes for general maintenance between 9pm and 5am. Traffic will still be able to travel in both directions.

    Curran Street northbound on-ramp, Stafford Road northbound off-ramp and Onewa Road northbound off-ramp will also be closed between 9pm and 5am.

    Central Auckland

     

    SH1 Fanshawe Street to Greenlane interchange

    (including the Auckland Harbour Bridge)

    Full southbound closure for general maintenance between 10pm and 5am.

    SH1 to SH16 northbound link to and from the port will be closed.
    Detour via Fanshawe Street, Customs Street East, Beach Road, Stanley Street, Grafton Road, Khyber Pass Road, Broadway, Great South Road and Greenlane East. 

    There will also be lane restrictions on the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

    Thu 15 Jan

    Central Auckland

    SH1 Auckland Harbour Bridge

    Southbound lane restrictions will be in place. Traffic will still be able to travel in both directions.

    Onewa Road southbound on-ramp, Shelly Beach southbound off-ramp and Fanshawe Street southbound off-ramp will be closed between 9pm and 5am.

    SH1 Mt Wellington Highway to East Tamaki Road

    Full southbound closure for general maintenance between 9pm and 5am. 

    Detour via Mt Wellington Highway, Atkinson Ave, Great South Road and East Tamaki Road.

    South/Central Auckland

    SH1 Greenlane interchange to Mt Wellington Highway

    Full southbound closure for general maintenance between 10:30pm and 5am. 

    Detour via Green Lane West, Great South Road, Sylvia Park Road and Mt Wellington Highway.

    North Auckland

    SH1 Silverdale interchange to Oteha Valley Road

    Full southbound closure for general maintenance between 9pm and 5am.

    Detour via Dairy Flat Highway and Oteha Valley Road.  

    Thu 22 Jan

    North Auckland

    SH1 Oteha Valley Road to Silverdale interchange

    Full northbound closure for general maintenance between 9pm and 5am.  

    Detour via Oteha Valley Road and Dairy Flat Highway. There will be no access to bpConnect Dairy Flat.

    SH1 Northcote Road to Constellation Drive

    Full northbound closure for general maintenance between 10pm and 5am. 

    Detour via Northcote Road, Taharoto Road, Wairau Road, Forrest Hill Road, East Coast Road and Constellation Drive. 

    Traffic travelling to SH18 should detour via Albany Highway, Bush Road and Paul Matthews Road.

    Exit at Constellation Drive and turn left onto SH18 Constellation Drive to use the recommended detour via Paul Matthews Road, Bush Road, Albany Expressway and Oteha Valley Road.  Please note the SH18 eastbound to SH1 northbound link will also be closed.

    Full southbound closure for general maintenance between 9pm and 5am.

    Detour to Silverdale interchange via Twin Coast Discovery Highway.

    Please note: Grand Drive, Orewa has vehicle weight restrictions at night. Heavy vehicles may need to detour from Warkworth via Old State Highway 1.

    Mon 2 and Tue 3 Feb

     

    Central Auckland

    SH1 Symonds Street to Fanshawe Street

    (includes Auckland Harbour Bridge and SH1/SH16 links)

    Full northbound closure for general maintenance between 10pm and 5am.

    To detour to Fanshawe Street northbound on-ramp, take the SH16 Port link (eastbound) to SH16 Port and detour via Stanley Street, Beach Road, Customs Street East and Fanshawe Street.

    Other detours include:

    • Motorists travelling from SH16 eastbound to SH1 northbound will need to take the Nelson Street northbound off-ramp and detour via Nelson Street and Fanshawe Street.
    • Motorists travelling from SH1 northbound to SH16 westbound will need to take the Symonds Street northbound off-ramp and detour via Symonds Street and Newton Road.
    • Motorists travelling from the SH16 Stanley Street (westbound) towards St Lukes will need to detour via Wellesley Street, Mayoral Drive, Cook Street and Hobson Street to the Hobson Street westbound on-ramp.

    Northbound ramps and links will be closed. Please follow signposted detours.

    There may be northbound lane restrictions on the Auckland Harbour Bridge, but lanes will still be available to travel north.

    Central Auckland

    SH16 Wellesley Street to Great North Road, Waterview

     

    (includes SH16 Port link westbound to SH1 and SH16 link to SH20)

    Full westbound closure for general maintenance between 10pm and 5am.

    Detour to Great North Road northbound on-ramp via Grafton Road, Khyber Pass Road, Newton Road and Great North Road.

    Traffic travelling to SH20 should detour to Maioro Street southbound on-ramp using the above detour to Great North Road and then Blockhouse Bay Road, Tiverton Road and Maioro Street.

    Southwest Auckland

    SH20 Maioro Street to Neilson Street

    Full southbound closure for general maintenance between 10pm and 5am.

    Detour to Neilson Street via Maioro Street, Stoddard Road, Denbigh Ave, Dominion Road, Mt Albert Road, Mt Smart Road and Onehunga Mall to Neilson Street southbound on-ramp.

    Please note Herd Road is not part of the recommended detour route.  

    Mon 9 and Tue 10 Feb

    Central Auckland

    SH1 Ellerslie interchange to Symonds Street

    Full northbound closure for general maintenance between 10pm and 5am.

    Detour to SH16 Stanley Street (Port) via Great South Road, Broadway, Khyber Pass Road and Grafton Road and use the SH16 to SH1 northbound link.

    Motorists travelling to SH16 westbound will detour to St Lukes Road westbound on-ramp via Great South Road, Greenlane West, Balmoral Road and St Lukes Road.

    Wed 11 Feb

    Northwest & Central Auckland

    SH16 Great North Road, Waterview to Alten Road, Central City (Port)

     

    Waterview Tunnel and SH1/ Port links may be affected

    Full eastbound closure for general maintenance between 10pm and 5am.

    Detour to SH16 Stanley Street (Port) via Great North Road, Newton Road, Khyber Pass Road and Grafton Road, Symonds Street, Anzac Ave and Beach Road. 

    Other detours include:

    • To SH1 northbound: Detour to Wellington Street northbound on-ramp via Great North Road, Ponsonby Road, Hopetoun Street, Pitt Street, Union Street and Wellington Street.
    • SH1 southbound to Port: use exit at SH16 St Lukes Road westbound off-ramp Road and use the recommended detour via Great north Road, Newton Road, Khyber Pass Road and Grafton Road, Symonds Street, Anzac Ave and Beach Road. 
    • SH20 to SH16 links: use the recommended detour via Maioro Street, Tiverton Road, Blockhouse Bay Road and Great North Road. From here you can go north on SH16 or follow the detour from Great North Road to the city.

    SH20 Mahunga Drive/ Rimu Road to Massey Road

    Full southbound closure for general maintenance between 10pm and 5am.

    Please detour to Massey Road southbound on-ramp via Mahunga Drive and Robertson Road.

    SH20 Massey Road to Lambie Drive

    Full southbound closure for general maintenance between 10pm and 5am.

    Please detour to Lambie Drive southbound on-ramp via Massey Road, Buckland Road, Station Road, and Wylie Road, Puhinui Road and Lambie Drive.

    For motorists travelling to SH20A detour via Massey Road and Kirkbride Road.

    Southwest Auckland

    SH20 Neilson Street to Maioro Street

    Full northbound closure for general maintenance.

    Please detour via Neilson Street, Onehunga Mall, Mt Albert Road, and Sandringham Road to Maioro Street interchange.

    Full northbound closure with contraflow for general maintenance between 9pm and 5am.

    Traffic will be able to travel north using one of the southbound lanes.

    There will be no access to and from Pioneer Road. The following detours will be in place:

    • Pioneer Road to SH1 northbound: Travel south on SH1 and turn around at Mercer to travel north.
    • SH1 northbound to Pioneer Road: Travel north on SH1 and turn around at Nikau Road to travel south.

    SH1 Pioneer Road to Island Block Road

    Full southbound closure with contraflow for general maintenance between 9pm and 5am.

    Traffic will be able to travel south using one of the northbound lanes.

    There will be no access to Mercer southbound ramps.

    • To exit at Mercer continue to travel north at SH1 and turn around at Pioneer Road to travel south.
    • To enter SH1 northbound at Mercer, travel south on SH1 and turn around at Hampton Downs to travel north.

    Contraflow entry and exit via Tauhinu Road and Squadron Drive. Stop/go traffic management will be in place at ramps.
