Busy nights ahead on SH1 Wellington to Porirua

|

The NZ Transport Agency is advising night-time travellers to allow extra time for their journeys on State Highway 1 between Wellington and Porirua over the next few weeks while essential maintenance is carried out on the road.

From Sunday night 19 May, the right-hand lane on each side of the median barrier of the highway at Churton Park will be closed. This is to allow replacement of the guardrail in the middle of the highway north and south of the Westchester overbridge.

The right-hand lanes will be closed from 7pm, or once traffic volumes have decreased, on Sunday nights through to Thursday nights for approximately four weeks. The lanes will be fully open during the day.

From Tuesday night 21 May, the northbound lanes of the highway between the Johnsonville on and off ramps will be closed. This is to allow the resurfacing of the road required to prevent deterioration.

The northbound lanes will be closed after 9pm for approximately seven nights. Northbound traffic will detour through the centre of Johnsonville during the closures, while the southbound lanes will remain open. All lanes will be fully open during the day.

Lane closures and contraflows, in which traffic flows both ways on one side of the highway, will continue at night for the Transmission Gully motorway works at Linden, south of Porirua.

This schedule of works is essential to ensure that the road and roadside are well-maintained and safe for all who use them.

The Transport Agency thanks road users for their patience and understanding.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
