Continuation of work on SH2 near Paengaroa next week

|

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises work to complete road reconstruction on a section of State Highway 2 near Paengaroa will get underway from Tuesday 28 April.

The work will take place to the east of the Wilson Road South and Wilson Road North intersections on SH2 from 7.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. They are expected to take twelve days to complete.

Bay of Plenty Transport Systems Manager Rob Campbell says this work will allow the Transport Agency’s contractors to complete work on what is currently an active work site and seal the road ahead of winter to ensure the road remains safe for all road users.

There will be a 24 hour a day 30km/h temporary speed limit in place for the duration of the work. This will remain in place for 5-10 days following completion of the work to enable our contractors to monitor how the seal beds in with lower traffic volumes than normal.

During the work, traffic travelling through the site will be managed using Stop/Go signs with a temporary speed limit of 30km/h.

This work is weather dependent.

Mr Campbell says work at Alert Level 3 will not look like pre-pandemic work.

“A range of new measures will need to be in place, including restricted access to sites, requirements for workers to maintain physical distancing, and the use of additional protective clothing.

“These measures help to ensure this work can be done safely within Level 3 guidelines, to protect our people, the people in their bubbles and road users.”

He asks people to be patient and respectful to roadworkers and look out for their safety and wellbeing.

“These people are stepping outside of their bubbles to do work that keeps us safe.”
